90% is good enough

Updated: Sep 28, 2023

“You can be the ripest, juiciest peach in the world, and there’s still going to be somebody who hates peaches.” — Dita Von Teese

It is good enough to propose a girl if you are 90% sure that what you feel is more than a crush.

It is good enough to publish an article that meets 90% of your expectation. It is good enough to make just 90% of people happy.

Even for a perfectionist reaching 100% is 100% impossible, since there will always be some hurdle to stop them from attaining perfection.

I have tried to run behind perfection for many years, and it just gave me pain and stress in return. I was not happy with my work. I was never content.

As a faculty, I tried to make everyone understand the subject. Even to ones who came in late or those who didn’t complete the previous assignments. I assumed it was my duty. Hence, I gave in extra efforts. But no more. I am ready to move ahead if 90% of the crowd understands me. If the remaining students are genuinely interested, they will either meet me after the lecture or ask their friends.

As a writer too I aimed for perfection and held myself back from publishing. The worst part was that whatever I wrote was never good enough. The issue with reading good stuff is that you compare your work with the best and are scared to publish your content.

However, in recent years I have realized that people don’t even reach 90%. They quit, well before that. It means a lot to reach 90%.

Thus I started grabbing the opportunities and taking chances when I was 90% sure and occasionally even for lesser surety.

People are not that harsh. They are considerate.

And 90% is good enough.
